Obituary - Charles Lee Goodman

Charles Lee Goodman, 88, of Urich, Missouri, died Sunday morning, July 21, 2013 at his home.

He was born January 7, 1925, the second son of Walter Philip Goodman and Mary Louisa (Sevier) Goodman, in LaDue, Mo., in rural Henry County, Mo.


As a small child he moved with his parents to Urich, Mo., where he attended Urich Public Schools for all twelve years, graduating in 1942 from the Urich High School as Salutatorian of his class.  During his high school years he participated in the Henry County Speech contests, the high school musical programs, and basketball team.  Charles and Reppie Jo's home sits on the grounds of the old School House yard.


Charles was a member of the Urich Baptist Church where he has served as Deacon and organist.  He served in the Armed forces in the 80th Infantry Division of the 3rd Army from June, 1944, through May, 1946.  After basic training in Florida, he served in the European Theatre of operations for 18 months, rising to the rank of Technical Sergeant.  He was awarded the Bronze Star during his overseas service. 


Charles attended the University of Missouri in Columbia from 1946 to 1949, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, majoring in Accounting.  He secured a position with Hallmark Cards, Inc., of Kansas City, Mo., in 1949, and worked there until December 31, 1987, serving 38 1/2 years in the Accounting and Computer areas.  During retirement, he and Reppie Jo worked for the funeral home in Urich as the greeters, among many other jobs within the funeral home.


On June 25, 1949, he married Reppie Jo Garrison in Urich, Mo., and she survives of the home.  They made their home in the Kansas City, Mo., area until 1993 when they moved back to Urich.


In addition to his wife Reppie Jo, he is survived by a son, Garrison Kevin Goodman of Topeka, Kansas; a daughter, Regina Gail Burt and husband David of Mound City, Ks.; two grandchildren, Aubrey Lee Hubbard and Cynthia Nicole Burt-Moss of Lee's Summit, Mo.; and a great-grandson, Leo Lawrence Armstrong of Lee's Summit, Mo.  He was preceded in death by one son Philip Joseph Goodman on July 2, 2009; and a brother, Willard Sevier Goodman, in infancy.


Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at the Urich Baptist Church, Urich, Mo.  Burial will be in the Urich Cemetery, north of Urich.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the church, just prior to the funeral service.  Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton, Mo.  The family suggests memorial contributions to the Urich Baptist Church, and these may be left in care of the funeral home.  Condolences may be left online at www.bradleyhadley.com.
