SHERIFF CONDUCTING DEATH INVESTIGATION IN HOUSE FIRE
Sheriff Kevin Bond is conducting a death investigation after two bodies were found in a house fire Monday afternoon in far west central Pettis County.
The Green Ridge Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on Morton Road shortly after 9:30 AM Monday morning and battled the blaze with the assistance of units from LaMonte Fire Department. Just before 1PM, deputies and the Missouri State Fire Marshal were requested to respond to the scene when firefighters discovered a body inside the residence. While subsequently searching the scene, authorities located a second victim in the residence as well.
Late Monday afternoon, the Pettis County Coroner’s Office transported the victims to Columbia for autopsies scheduled Tuesday to positively identify the victims and determine cause of death.
