According to Henry
County Sheriff J. Kent Oberkrom, Deputy Zach Sebree responded to SW
Hwy HH and SE Hwy RA on a report of a suspicious vehicle and possible
theft of scrap metal at 7:30 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2013.
Deputy Sebree
identified the driver and determined that the property in the pick-up
truck was stolen. As Deputy Sebree attempted to arrest the driver,
Randy Matthew Taylor, age 33, Leeton, Taylorbegan to drive away.
Deputy Sebree, while attempting to remove Taylor from the vehicle,
was subsequently struck in the back of the head by a piece of the
stolen scrap metal hanging over the bed of the truck.
Deputy Sebree, who was
unconscious for a brief moment, was able to return to his patrol car
and pursued the truck north on Hwy RA to west on SE 250 and then
north on SE 1301. After the pursuit cross over Hwy 18, the suspect
vehicle stopped on SE 1301 just south of Division Road. The driver
fled the vehicle and was subsequently taken into custody in a field
by Deputy Sebree, Deputy Richardson, Deputy Steward and Sgt. Bigler.
Taylor, who is on
probation for robbery 2nd
and burglary 2nd
was transported to the Detention Center on several new felony
charges. Deputy Sebree was transported by Sheriff Oberkrom to Golden
Valley Hospital, where he was treated for injuries to his head, face
and arms. Sebree has been released from the hospital.
