MoDOT looking for Maintenance Worker and Seasonal Workers

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) employs 2,400 maintenance employees across the state to maintain its 33,891 miles of state routes. If you're looking for diverse opportunities, challenging work and a friendly environment, come join a dynamic team working to support the finest Department of Transportation in America.

There are three different types of workers in our maintenance department – full time maintenance workers, seasonal maintenance workers and emergency operators.

Maintenance Worker and Seasonal Workers

Maintenance workers perform routine, entry-level duties related to the maintenance of the state's roadways and facilities. Responsibilities are performed under direct supervision.

For full time and seasonal maintenance workers, MoDOT requires applicants to be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma and possess a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with interstate designated status and no airbrake restrictions. Tanker endorsement is required in some areas, as well. Applicants must also successfully complete a criminal background check and drug screening.

Full-time Maintenance Workers and Seasonal Maintenance Workers must have the ability to learn the operation of equipment in the area including heavy dump truck with snowplow, 6-foot tractor mower, front-end loader, jack hammer and pull roller. Ability to perform physical labor including moving materials by hand, operating hand tools and stationary flagging is also required.

Full time maintenance worker positions include full benefits including medical insurance, paid holidays, paid vacation/sick days and twice monthly salaries starting from $1,179 to 1,331.50 depending on the level of the position.

Seasonal maintenance workers work no more than 1,040 hours within a 12-month period. These positions are not benefit-eligible but are paid an hourly wage ranging from $10.83 to $15.63, depending on experience.

Emergency Operator
Emergency operators assist with our winter operations efforts. During the winter season, emergency snow-removal crew members are needed when inclement weather hits. The department has a continuous need for emergency operators to work in all parts of the state, including both urban and rural areas during the winter season.

Qualified applicants would receive extensive training so they would be able to perform routine, entry-level duties related to MoDOT’s snow removal operations. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with interstate designated status and no air-brake restrictions.

Those hired as emergency operators can earn $13.82 to $15.63 per hour, depending on their levels of experience.

Applications for employment are accepted and reviewed on a continuing basis. For emergency operator positions, you will only receive notification if the department wishes to schedule you for an interview.
