A Garden City Police Department Crisis Intervention Team Officer (CIT) was dispatched to the scene and talk to the man into seeking medical attention.
The man was transported by Garden City EMS to Cass Regional Medical Center. Garden City Police Chief Thomas Alber implemented the CIT program in Garden City to more effectively respond to these situations The CIT program is designed to improve the way law enforcement and the community respond to people experiencing mental health crisis. They are built on strong partnerships between law enforcement, mental health provider agencies and individuals and families affected by mental illness
