John was born May 9, 1922 in Montrose, Missouri the son of Fred Matthew and Hattie May (Van Gordon) Mitchel. John served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was married to Aileen Holt and they were blessed with two sons. John was a farmer and dairyman throughout his lifetime and had currently been residing at the Warrensburg Veterans Home in Warrensburg. John had been a faithful member of the Montrose Presbyterian United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife Aileen Mitchel of Appleton City, Missouri and two sons, Jerry Mitchel of Montrose, Missouri and Terry Mitchel of Clinton, Missouri.
The funeral service for John will be held at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.

Visitation will be Friday, December 16, 2016 from 6:30-7:30 p.m., at Hill and Son Funeral Home Appleton City, Missouri. Officiating at the service will be Dr. David Maggi.
The Family suggests any memorial contributions be made to the Truman Lake Community Foundation or the Veteran's League, Missouri Veteran's Home, 1300 Veterans Rd., Warrensburg, MO 64093. A Military Graveside Service will be presented by Appleton City VFW Post #11242 and the Missouri Honor Guard.
BURIAL will be in the Montrose Cemetery, Montrose, Missouri.
