Wrong way driver poses threat during fire call last night

Working an incident along I-49 can be bad enough, especially at night, notwithstanding any added danger.

Last night the Adrian Fire Department was dispatched to a car fire just north of the AA and E overpass in the southbound lanes of I-49, when a second call was dispatched concerning a driver heading north from Adrian, also in the southbound lane.

"It was too close for comfort" said Adrian Fire Chief Gary Dizney, who was on scene of the car fire when the wrong way driver passed by. "We thought we were going to be working two scenes, a fire and a head on collision".

Fortunately, the Adrian Police Department and the Bates County Sheriff's Office safely stopped the elderly man who mistakenly entered the wrong ramp at the Adrian exit.

Fortunately, the car fire was small in nature, allowing fire department personnel to shorten their time on the scene.
