Obituary - Ray Maynard Barnes

Ray Maynard Barnes
Ray Maynard Barnes, 91, Nevada, MO passed away peacefully on May 22, 2017 at Morningside Assisted Living in Nevada, Missouri. He was born in Ottawa, Kansas to Leslie and Amelia Barnes on February 2, 1926. He married Melba Adams on October 28, 1972 in Nevada, Missouri.

Ray enlisted in the Army at 18 years of age and served for approximately 5 years, including a stint in Germany during World War 2. He held many jobs including a welder and carpenter. Ray enjoyed being a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge # 564 and the VFW Post #2175. Ray loved to fish, hunt, camp and travel with his wife Melba. 


He and Melba were snowbirds and spent half of the year in Apache Junction, Arizona for 21 years where he loved to tinker with bikes and his many N scale train sets. He made many friends in the park where they lived, some of which have passed on as well.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Melba Barnes of the home.; one daughter Nancy Raylene(Edd) Brandon, Fayettevile, Arkansas; two stepsons, Darrell (Donna) Adams, Greenfield, MO and Leland (Sue Ann) Adams, Nevada, MO and loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister and one son.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Rich, Hill, MO. Visitation will be held @ 1:00 on Wednesday, prior to the service.
