From Butler Fire Department

Photo Submitted
At 9:52 p.m. on July 27, 2017 the Butler Fire Department received a report of a car that had been swept off of the roadway by floodwater a half mile west of I-49 at the east 52 exit.

Upon arrival a vehicle was located about a quarter mile further west from the edge of the floodwater washed up against the fence.

The Butler Fire Department launched their boat and made contact with three individuals stranded in their vehicle. The Bates County Sheriff's Department also responded with their MRAP rescue vehicle.

The three individuals were transferred into the boat and then into the Sheriff's rescue vehicle. There were no injuries. Do not drive through water over the roadway.

A mere 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock over an adult. It takes just 12 inches of rushing water to carry away a small car, while 2 feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles. It is NEVER safe to drive or walk into flood waters!!
