He was born November 9, 1925 in Cross Timbers, Mo., the son of James Orville Maxwell and Ethel (Olmstead) Maxwell.
Leland was a service mechanic with the United States Postal Service for 44 years. He married Gertrude Gilker in St. Louis, Mo., in 1951. She preceded him in death in 1998. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Along with his brothers he enjoyed fishing.
Surviving are a sister, Janice Marie Schumacher and husband Mike, South Dakota; sister-in-law, Paulette Maxwell, Clinton, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Harold Dee Maxwell, Gerald Wayne Maxwell and Charles Wilbur Maxwell.
Graveside services and interment will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at the Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton.
The family suggests memorial gifts to a charity of the donor's choice, and these donations may be left in care of the funeral home.
