A drive through Amsterdam yesterday would have taken you into the past- figuratively speaking, of course. Known as the Kansas City Southern business train, these locomotives and passenger cars were temporarily stopped on the KCP&L spur leading to the LaCygne power plant.
Shown here is the fully restored Southern Belle, which used to make regular runs between Kansas City and Louisiana, as folks primarily traveled by train in that era.
This particular diesel-electric locomotive design by General Electric was quite popular from 1939 to around 1960 and considered an efficient replacement for steam locomotives.
