Sixteen years ago today, our country and the principles that make us great came under attack. On September 11, 2001, terrorists – motivated by a deep hatred for our way of life – struck our nation, killing thousands of innocent Americans on our own soil. Today, we remember the tragic loss of those Americans. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of the loved ones lost on that fateful day. We will forever honor the memory of those victims and the brave officers, firemen, paramedics and others who sacrificed their lives trying to save the lives of others.
While those terrorists succeeded in wounding us on that day, we have overcome. Sixteen years later, our country has continued the march of freedom and has fought terrorism at every turn. We are committed to keeping our trust in God, holding fast to the freedoms guaranteed in the Constitution, and shining as a city on a hill for all the world to see.
On this September 11, we honor the memory of the victims of that tragic day, and we pledge ourselves anew to the principles that make our nation great. Thank you, and God Bless America.
