From the Desk of Harrisonville Mayor Brian Hasek

Later this month we will be discussing the Harrisonville city budget for 2018. When we work on the budget we must first make sure the necessities are met to ensure city services are funded as well as meeting our debt obligations. Once those items are covered we must decide where to apply excess funds (if any).

Areas we will look at are road improvements, storm water improvements and upgrading equipment. This year we have an extra challenge to replace funds used from the restricted utility funds to finance the loan to the 291 improvements.

As we learned from the State Audit this was not an appropriate use of those funds and should not have been approved by the council at that time. I am hopeful we will still have funds available after repaying those funds. We continue to work to correct the deficiencies identified in the audit so we can continue to move the city forward.
