A 6 week old baby had been brought to the hospital with a broken leg and other injuries that were consistent with child abuse.
An investigation began and the child was removed from the custody of his parents.
After an investigation by detectives, charges were submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s office on the baby’s father, David W. Gordon, 24, Joplin, for abuse of a child.
The prosecutor filed the charge with a $25,000 cash bond on 10-10-2017. This morning, detectives arrested Gordon for the charge and he is currently held in our jail.
The child, after being seen at Mercy, was transferred to Kansas City for treatment. He has since been released and is in alternative care, recovering.

A 4 month old female child was also removed from the parents’ custody and placed into alternative care.
