River Rescue on the Sac River in Cedar County

RIVER RESCUE: Dade County Conservation Agent Jeremy Edwards and Cedar County Conservation Agent Tyler Green were called last Monday to assist in the rescue of seven floaters stranded on a small island on the Sac River in Cedar County.

The floaters were unaware that the river would rise due to power generation at the Stockton Lake Dam, and soon became overwhelmed by the fast current and unpredictable nature of the river during full power generation.

The floaters had lost all but one of their canoes and most of their gear. Agents Edwards and Green reached the stranded floaters and were able to assist the CapLinger Mills Fire Department in transporting them to safety without incident.

Assisting with swift water rescue is just one of the many diverse duties Missouri’s conservation agents are properly trained to handle. –
