The man was seated behind the wheel of his vehicle and although an active investigation into this incident is still in progress, preliminary results of the investigation revealed that the gunshot wound was likely self-inflicted. The man had apparently been arguing with his former girlfriend about the presence of another man at the home.
According to the former girlfriend, and mother who was there, the deceased man came to the door and asked his former girlfriend to come outside. When she did he pointed a gun at her and then placed it against his own head threatening suicide.
The former girlfriend walked back into the house telling the man to leave. He departed, but returned a short time later and parked in the driveway where he was found by responding police officers. It was determined by detectives that the other man present in the home had no involvement in the domestic altercation.
The man was in fact, the father of the former girlfriend’s children and was just there visiting the children. However, later in the evening, at approximately 10:57 P.M., the same man, the father of the former girlfriend’s children, was driving a vehicle in the 500 block of east Ohio Street when several gunshots were fired at his vehicle. The vehicle was hit multiple times as were a nearby house and garage. No one was injured in the incident. Clinton Police Detectives and officers investigated the shooting at that location. It is believed that the two incidents are connected.
Clinton Police were assisted at the scene of the deceased man by Henry County Coroner Dain Sisk and the Henry County Sheriff’s Department. The body was transported to Consalus Funeral Home.
