Alert: Icing Expected Through The Day

Temperatures overnight hovered, or fell just enough below freezing, allowing accumulating ice to spread south from northwest Missouri south into Kansas City.

The temperatures today are expected to remain cold with the help of a persistent north wind. Thus, we expect storms spreading northeast from south central Kansas to spread across eastern Kansas and western Missouri this morning, bringing additional light ice accumulations to the Winter Weather Advisory area, with an additional quarter of an inch of ice possible in areas covered by the Ice Storm Warning (which includes Kansas City).

The precipitation will continue to slowly shift east today, with a winter mix of precipitation exiting to the east by the late afternoon hours. Areas outside the current Advisory or Warning areas will like not get winter precipitation till the mid to late afternoon hours, limiting the accumulations.
