Cass County Residents Invited to Attend Flood Workshop

Representatives from several state and federal agencies that deal with floods and the aftermath will share information during a workshop to be held Thursday, February 15, starting at 7 p.m. in the Harrisonville Community Center.

The program is being sponsored by the City of Harrisonville and is open to all residents of Cass County, free of charge.

The evening’s program will include presentations on flood plain management by the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), on the National Flood Insurance Program, and on the role of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in reducing and managing the risk of flooding from the nation’s rivers and streams.

“Cass County experienced several heavy rain events last summer that caused flooding in various areas of the county, including Harrisonville,” Director of Public Works Eric Patterson said. “We hope the insights shared by our presenters will answer some of the fundamental questions that always come up after a natural disaster such as a flood.”
