It was reported that two male subjects were at the intersection of W. Hunter Street & N. Adams Street when one of the subjects shot at the other.
During the initial investigation, officers observed one of the subjects involved in the shooting return to the area. Officers made contact with the subject inside a vehicle. Officers on scene noticed the vehicle appeared to have been struck by gunfire.
During this time, a witness reported to officers that the subject had thrown a gun from the vehicle after leaving the scene. A loaded handgun was recovered by officers. It was determined the subject was prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Shortly thereafter officers located the second subject in the 300 block of North Clay hiding inside a residence. He was taken into custody and identified as the shooter through the investigation.
Detectives were able to locate a second loaded handgun believed to be involved with the shooting in the 400 block of W. Hunter Street.
One male subject, identified as Dale W. Garwood, age of 44 of Nevada was taken into custody and transported to the Vernon County Jail for holding.
On Monday, March 26, 2018 the following charges were filed against Garwood through the Vernon County Associate Court:
Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Class B Felony
Armed Criminal Action – Unclassified Felony
Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Class E Felony
Garwood is being held in the Vernon County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 cash only bond.
The second male subject, identified as John D. Howell Jr, age 25 of Nevada was taken into custody and transported to the Vernon County Jail for holding.
On Monday, March 26, 2018 the following charges were filed against Howell through the Vernon County Associate Court:
Unlawful Possession of a Firearm – Class D Felony
Howell is being held in the Vernon County Jail in lieu of a $15,000 cash only bond.
