Upon arrival at the scene, it was determined that a female subject had sustained a single gunshot wound to her lower, left leg, above the ankle. A male subject was immediately taken into custody and a 20-gauge shotgun was found lying in the yard in close proximity to the gunshot victim.
Several witnesses to the incident were interviewed by deputies at the scene, at which time they determined during the course of their investigation that a verbal disturbance, which was domestic in nature, had occurred between the gunshot victim and the male subject currently in law enforcement custody. The verbal disturbance escalated between the parties, into the first reported gunshot being fired. The verbal disturbance continued for a considerable period of time, then again escalated into a physical disturbance between both parties, which resulted in a second gunshot being fired while the male subject had the shotgun in his possession, striking the female victim in the lower, left leg.
The female victim was treated at the scene by Golden Valley Memorial Hospital EMS, then transported by air ambulance to a Kansas City area hospital for emergency treatment.
Arrested at the scene was Jesse Raybourn, age 36, of Deepwater, Missouri, for 1st Degree Domestic Assault, Armed Criminal Action and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Raybourn is currently incarcerated at the Henry County Detention Center.
Deputies who responded to the scene included Cpl. Aaron Richardson, Deputy Ethan Logan, Detective Leonard Kubilus, as well as Cpl. Chris West with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Deepwater Police Chief Mishon Clark.
