News about the Trail of Memories in Butler

The Trail of Memories is a beloved memorial to Debra Bledsoe and so many others who have passed away around the Bates County community. New memorials on the Trail had been suspended last fall pending decisions on how to best to care for the Trail and move forward. The Trail is under the administration of the Bates County Community Health Foundation (BCCHF).

BCCHF has approved a new plan for the Trail. Effective immediately, all memorial trees purchased in memory of a loved one, which are presently on the Trail, will be guaranteed for a period of three years. After such time, should a tree need replaced, it will be the responsibility of the purchaser. All NEW trees purchased from now on are guaranteed for three years from purchase. The cost for a tree is now $200.

Memorial benches are again available for purchase. The new price is $400 which includes two lines of engraving (the name of the person memorialized, and their date of birth/death; additional lines are available if desired for $35 each). Benches are guaranteed also for a period of three years.

BCCHF wants you to know that the increase in prices was taken very seriously. It is our desire to maintain and care for the Trail long into the future and the costs of doing so are always rising, especially as the Trail expands. Proceeds from the sale of trees and benches are used for the maintenance and upkeep of the Trail, and also fund the annual Debra Bledsoe Memorial Scholarship, given to a student from Bates County pursuing a healthcare career. It is our intention that these increased prices assure both goals are met long into the future.

Tree and Bench purchase forms are available at Bates County Memorial Hospital, from any BCCHF Board member, or by contacting Greg Mullinax at 660-679-0009. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to continuing the Trail which has become special to so many in our area.
