Mick Stratton 77 passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2018. Mick was born on May 3, 1941 in Portage, WI to Violet Males and William Emerson Stratton. He graduated from High School in Higginsville, Missouri in 1959. After graduating, he served in the US Navy Center in San Diego, CA. After serving in the Navy he attended University Central Missouri. Mick has been in the accounting business for 50 years, the last 27 years he owned and operated Stratton’s Bookkeeping Service in Clinton, MO.
Mick and Janet Brown were united in marriage on June 17, 1962. They are members of the United Methodist Church.
Mick was a very active member of the community and belonged to many organizations in Clinton. These included the Optimist Club where he served as president. He also served on Clinton’s City Council from 1996 to 2012 serving as mayor pro tem. He received a commendation for outstanding service in 2003 as a 55 year member of the Elks Club. He also belonged to the Shriners Club and the Jaycees serving as the President from 1970-1971 for which he received the Community Leader of America award. He was also a member of the International Accountants society, Missouri Society of Accountants, National Accountants Society, and the National Directors of Registered Tax Return Preparers & Professionals, LTD.
Mick belonged to Meadow Lake Country Club and was an avid golfer for many years. He loved to play golf. Morning coffee with his buddies was a treasured lifelong morning ritual.
Mick is survived by his wife Janet, siblings : Bill and wife Virgie Stratton of Lexington, Jan and her husband Tom Beck of Lexington, Sherry her husband Mike Kilpatrick of Higginsville, brother in laws: Dave and wife Nova Brown of Broussard, Louisiana, Dick and wife Cris Brown of north Kansas City, as well as a host of many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Violet Stratton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Clinton’s Elk Lodge #1034 for Community service projects.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, of Clinton.
