Obituary - Alice Hendricks

Alice Hendricks, 99, Clinton, Missouri passed away Thursday, May 16, 2019 at St. Luke's East, Lee's Summit, Missouri. Fond memories and condolences may be left online at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, May 20, 2019 at 11am with visitation one hour prior to the service at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Clinton, Missouri. Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, Missouri. 

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Alice Linnea Olson Hendricks passed away at St. Luke's Hospital in Lee's Summit on May 16, 2019 at the age of 99. Alice was born on December 14, 1919 to Klara E. Paulson Olson and Erik Olaf Olson in Lake Stevens, Washington. Both of her parents immigrated from Sweden. Alice's mother came to America in July, 1910 on the RMS Lusitania. Both of her parents arrived separately in America and came through Ellis Island.

Alice was raised on a dairy farm with her two older brothers and younger sister. She attended school in Machias and Snohomish, Washington. After graduating from high school, Alice moved to Seattle where she worked for the Bell Telephone Company. She met her future husband Bill in Seattle while he was in the Army and stationed in that area. Alice and Bill were married on December 1, 1945 and enjoyed 65 years of marriage.

After the war was over they returned to Clinton, Bill's hometown. Alice and Bill had two children, Paul and Sharon. After the children were older, she worked at Nagel's Ladies Ready-Wear store. She and Bill were later joint owners in that business. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Nifty Needlers Sewing Club and the Henry County Historical Society. Alice was a Cub Scout Den Mother. and Campfire Girls leader for her children. She enjoyed traveling and playing and watching sports, Alice was a big fan of the Royals and Chiefs. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Alice was a very talented homemaker. She was an amazing baker, cook, seamstress and gardener, she was successful at anything she attempted. Alice enjoyed playing card games with her family, going to the boats and casinos and playing solitaire on her Ipad. She loved winning! Alice was intelligent, competitive, detail oriented and very precise. She was athletic, quiet, thoughtful, fun loving and stubborn in her later years. She was determined and knew what she wanted. Alice was a loving classy lady and a blessing to her family and friends. She will be missed.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Erik and Klara Olson, her brothers, Ernes Olson and Elmer Olson, her sister, Thelma Olson, her husband, William J. Hendricks (Bill) and daughter-in-law, Patricia Hendricks.

Alice is survived by her son, Paul Hendricks, Clinton, daughter, Sharon Montgomery (Sam), Springfield, grandchildren, Jason Hendricks (Deanna), Osawatomie, Kansas, Annie Rogers, Prairie Village, Kansas, Matthew Montgomery, Springfield, Sarah Montgomery, Santa Monica, California, great-granddaughter, Maggie Rogers, Prairie Village, Kansas, step great-grandchildren, Ashley Willett, Kansas City and David Willett, Kansas City.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, Missouri.
