Appleton City prepares for Fair

Per Ordinance #2019-2 “An Ordinance Prohibiting Smoking of any kind in Public Places.”, smoking shall be prohibited at all time in all City of Appleton City public parks and playgrounds, including, without limitation: Forest Park, Donohue Dugan Park and Karlene May Park. Smoking is prohibited at all parks and playground areas owned by the City and open to the public. Smoking is prohibited in a building or open-air facility owned, leased or operated by the city of Appleton City. The Ordinance in its entirety is posted on the bulletin board outside of City Hall or you may get a paper copy at City Hall.

Appleton City PTO will host its annual taco bar 5:30 - 10:00 p.m. Friday, June 7 at Forest Park in conjunction with the AC fair. Please come out to support the PTO by purchasing a large taco salad for $5. All proceeds will benefit Appleton City PTO and the students at Appleton City Elementary.

The monthly Men's Fellowship Breakfast at the Appleton City Church of God (Holiness) will be 7:00 a.m. Saturday, June 8. This month's devotional speaker will be James Damon. Come join them for an hour of great food and fellowship.

Chapter CC will be serving biscuits and gravy this Saturday, June 8, in front of Kreisler Country Pharmacy on Main Street beginning at 8:00 a.m.

The Knights of Columbus will have their monthly pancake and sausage breakfast at the Knight’s Hall in Montrose on Sunday, June 9 from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. Treat your family to a hot breakfast you don’t have to cook or clean up. A free will donation will be greatly appreciated


St. Clair County Cattlemen’s Association Meeting will hold their next meeting 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 11 at the Lakeland R-III School District Cafeteria. This is the Kick-off meeting for MoBeef for MoKids Program with the Speaker being Mark Russell of Missouri Beef Industry Council and OPAA Food Service sponsoring the meeting. Quasquacentennial 1995 Pictorial Books may be purchased at Community First or St. Clair Co. Banks. Make checks for $25 to AC Park-SQC. This is the first time this book has been printed. If you haven't purchased one in the last 2 weeks you do not have this book. A new SQC-Sesquicentennial Historical Calendar will be offered for sale for $10 at the AC Fair SQC Booth. The calendar is packed with historical facts and 144 pictures.

AC Fair Carnival armbands are on sale, through noon June 6 at Food Fair and Powell's True Value for $15 each (cash only) or until sold out.

At the Scavenger Hunt 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the AC Fair you can do it alone or with friends of any age. For this Hunt you should be able to find the items in the Park. Load those pockets and purses to help find unique items. Be a prize winner while having fun and meeting everyone at the Fair. Participate by being in the audience to find out what items the contestants are searching for on their list. Contestants should bring a pen. The AC Cemetery Association is raffling (2) half beefs with processing. Proceeds go to support and maintain the AC Cemetery. Winners will be announced at the Applefest in September. Tickets are available for purchase at St. Clair Co. State Bank, Powell’s Tru Value and Noble Machine and Manufacturing for $10 each.

There will be a smoked meat dinner to benefit Mike Lawson 5:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday, June 15 at the Montrose Community Building. Dinner includes pulled pork, sides, dessert and a drink. There will also be a 50/50 raffle, bake sale and live auction by auctioneer, Kevin Wade. Mike was diagnosed with stomach cancer and is undergoing aggressive treatment. 100% of the proceeds from this event will go to the Mike Lawson Love Fund. Donations can be made payable to Mike Lawson Love Fund c/o Montrose Savings Bank, 401 Missouri Avenue, Montrose, MO 64770.

AC Dog Jog is a 5K walk/run on June 15 at Forest Park in Appleton City starting at 9:30 a.m. Funds raised will go to House Of Hound, a non-kill animal shelter located in Butler, MO. More information can be found on their Facebook event page "AC Dog Jog". Registration and donation forms can be found on their event page or at H&E Vet Clinic.

The Appleton City FBLA will be having a Kickin' Chicken Dinner Fundraiser on this Father's Day, Sunday, June 16. The dinner will be held at the high school commons area from 11:00-1:30. For $10 a plate, the menu is fried chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, roll and dessert Proceeds from the dinner will help support Appleton City's FBLA compete at Nationals in San Antonio, Texas this June. Thursday night, June 6 at Opera House Theatre in beautiful downtown El Dorado Springs, will be a night of local talent. They have a wide variety of music lined up and would hate for you to miss this special night. This will be their last concert for the summer. Admission is $7.00 per person.
