Update: Names released in St. Clair County Deputy Involved Shooting

Deputy Involved Shooting

On June 9, 2019, at approximately 3:27 p.m., St. Clair County Deputy Corporal Dale Roberts, radioed into dispatch stating a subject on a motorcycle just passed him at a high rate of speed. Corporal Roberts had a radar reading of the motorcycle going over 100 miles per hour. Corporal Roberts tried to initiate a traffic stop on the motorcycle. The subject failed to yield to the deputy for approximately two miles and finally stopped on Highway A, just west of Center Road.

Corporal Roberts made contact with the driver, later identified as Shane Magoon, 47, Lowry City. During contact, Corporal Roberts noticed a gun on the hip of Shane Magoon. Magoon was warned not reach for the gun. Magoon refused to cooperate. Corporal Roberts deployed his county issued Taser, with no effect. Magoon reached for his weapon. Corporal Roberts fired one shot, striking Magoon.

Corporal Roberts radioed dispatch to notify them of a shot fired and to have medical expedited to his location. Magoon was airlifted to an area hospital in critical condition.

Corporal Roberts was placed on administrative leave as per St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office policy.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is assisting in the investigation.
