Obituary - Mike Lawson

The Funeral Mass for Mike will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 25, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montrose, Missouri.

Officiant at Mass will be Msgr Brad Offutt.

Visitation will precede Mass between 1:30 - 2:00 p.m. at the church.

Interment will be in St. Ludger’s Cemetery, Germantown, Missouri.

Memorial donations are to the Family Love Fund.
Michael Dale Lawson passed away on Saturday October 19, 2019 at University of Kansas Hospital, after a hard fought battle with cancer. Mike was born on December 12, 1954 to John L. Lawson and Imojeanne (Elrod) Lawson in Clinton, MO.

Mike grew up on the family farm in Bates County, until the family moved to Montrose, MO in 1962. He started his education at Hudson R-9 School and completed his education at Montrose R-14 School.

He worked at Calhoun Hatchery while still in school and also at the farm of John Robinson in Creighton, MO. From there he went to work for Jerry Mitchel milking cows. After graduating from high school, he worked for the railroad in Kansas. On July 1, 1975 Mike and his brother Steve purchased Rotert Brothers Garage in Montrose, MO. In 1987 Mike became sole owner of Lawson’s garage. He spent many years taking care of the needs of his customers, whether it be tire repair, mechanic, towing etc. He thoroughly enjoyed his customers, and always gave special treatment to the elderly, picking up and delivering their vehicles to their door step. He went out of his way to help anyone that was in need.

Mike and his brother built and operated Brothers Car Wash in Montrose.

He also owns along with his cousin Jim Dugan, Cousins Storage Units in Montrose.

He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church, where he played piano at the services while his Dad preached.

In his youth, Mike was a member of the Montrose Busy Beaver 4-H Club.

He was on the Montrose City Council for many years.

In 1997 Mike and Rhonda Rotert started their lives together.

They simply enjoyed each other’s company, spending many happy weekends at the lake on their boat and reading books. The lake was their their quiet getaway. Mike loved to spring spontaneous adventures upon his wife, where the destination was sometimes unknown, but they always had a great time and made wonderful memories together. Along with this, they also enjoyed making many new friends at the lake and spending time with Rhonda’s Father.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Imojeanne Lawson and nephew Daniel Cummings.

Mike is survived by Rhonda of the home, Their children Tracy (Mallett)Turner and Rick, Casey (Mallett) Jones and Will, Marshal and friend Michelle, and Denise Lawson. Grandchildren Korine and Ricky Turner, Caston and Caitie Mallett, Jazmon Mallett and fiancé Glen, Alexus Israel, Averyk Mallett and Maddie Bailey, great grandchildren Kyrie, and Kezley Mallett. His brothers and sisters Susan (Lawson) Cummings, John Steven Lawson, Patricia (Lawson) Kalwei and Tony, Robert Lawson and Susan, nephews John Cameron and Judd Lawson and many other family and friends.
