Obituary - Bruce Eugene Hord

Bruce Eugene Hord, age 89, of Clinton, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2019 at St. Luke's Plaza Hospital, Kansas City, MO. Funeral service 10:30am, Wednesday, October 23 at Vansant-Mills Funeral Chapel, Clinton. 

Visitation 9:30-10:30am prior to service. Interment in Englewood Cemetery, Clinton. The family suggests memorial contributions to be made to The Missouri Department of Conservation Heritage Fund or the Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic and may be left in care of the funeral home. Bruce was born in Clinton, Missouri on December 3, 1929, the son of Earl and Daisy (Sersey) Hord. He graduated with the class of 1947 from Clinton High School. After graduation from public schools, he attended Central Missouri State College, Warrensburg, Missouri, for a year and worked for the U.S. Postal Service and the U.S. Geological Survey. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 and was trained as a paratrooper. After his return from military service he returned to work at the Clinton Post Office. Bruce met and married Patricia Russell in 1956, and together they raised five children. He was Postmaster in Urich, Missouri from 1972 to 1987.

Bruce was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, and spent many happy hours on the family farm and standing in the river at Bennett Spring State Park. A man of many interests, he collected stamps, had an interest in archaeology, gardened, raised and released monarch butterflies, and owned an absolute library of western novels. He was a hometown boy who loved Clinton and the whole area. Most of all, Bruce was a good family man. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and was loved in return.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Rebecca Hord; his brother Howard E. Hord; and his sister Barbara Burns.
He is survived by the love of his life, Pat of Clinton, Missouri; three sons, Chris (Dawn) Hord of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Jim (Joy) Hord of Olathe, Kansas, and Lawrence (Christine) Hord, of Lynn, Missouri; two daughters, Becky Jarsulic of Lenexa, Kansas, and Julie (Vince) McDonough of Fenton, Missouri; one sister, Marsha Conkey of Yuba City, California; ten grandchildren, Christy Schouten, Adam White, Mallory Hord, Laura (Keith) Cameron, Tricia McDonough, Katie McDonough, Brayden Hord, Preston Hord, Sierra Hord, and Olivia Hord; four great-grandchildren, Devin Forsee, Blake Gregory, Haven Schouten, and Fiona Cameron; as well as many relatives and friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, MO.
