Betty June (Davis) Steiner, 97, of Appleton City Missouri passed peacefully on November 15, 2019 at Appleton City Manor, Appleton City, Missouri. She was born June 1, 1922 to Peyton Reeves and Stella Blake (Raybourn) Davis in rural Taberville, Missouri, the youngest of eight siblings.
Betty attended the one-room Cumpton School and graduated from Appleton City High School in 1939. She lived her faith as an involved member of the community as a 4-H Community Leader Pleasant Gap Extension Club and PTA offices. Her commitment to the Pleasant Gap Christian Church was demonstrated by her many years as a Sunday School teacher, song Leader, and Ladies Aid member and officer. Service to others was exhibited through her “food ministry”, always providing a meal for funeral dinners or taking food to friends and neighbors.
Betty and Roy knew each other from childhood but started a new chapter in their lives when they were asked to sing in a community quartet. Their first date was a wiener roast in 1938. They were married November 28, 1941 and celebrated 72 years together.
Betty’s great love for her family resulted in a home that was warm and welcoming not only to her children and husband, but extended to family and friends alike. She was famous for her Sunday dinners, always served with a double portion of love.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, her parents, and siblings: Tom and Reeves Davis, Alice Beard, Helen Doerflinger, Eunice Davis, Mary Jane Beard and Vivian Majors.
Survivors include Betty’s four daughters, Marlise Swartz of Bangor, Maine, Sheryl Morriss and husband Jack of Cumming, Georgia, Karla Kelly and husband Larry of Appleton City, Missouri, and Lori Johnson and husband Mark of Kansas City, Missouri; and eight grandchildren: Matt (Monique) and Kara Swartz of Bangor, Maine, Anna (Allan) Brantley, and Megan (Aaron) Horsley of Alpharaetta, Georgia, Kristopher (Vanessa) and Brett Kelly of Springfield, Missouri, Brielle Johnson of Kansas City, Missouri and Hunter Johnson of Madison, Minnesota. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Olivia and Chase Swartz, Peyton and Maris Brantley, Rylan and Bailyn Horsley, and Ethan and Loren Kelly and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
