Norval was raised in the Sheldon area and graduated from Sheldon High School Class of 1949. He worked at Foremost Dairy in Nevada for several years, as well as several service stations before opening his own Phillips 66 service station in Nevada which he operated for 20 years. In 1976, Norval began working at 3M Nevada and continued working there until his retirement. Following his retirement, he moved to Willard where he resided for 20 years before returning to Nevada. Norval was a member of the United Methodist Church. He had been a member of the Osage Masonic Lodge in Nevada and later the Masonic Lodge in Willard, MO, and had become a 50 year member. He was also a member of the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine. He enjoyed quail and pheasant hunting, fishing, woodworking, being with his family, “a good strawberry milkshake”, and was an avid gardener.
He is survived by two daughters, Carol and Mark Handly of Leeton, MO, Janet and Gregg Fritter of Ash Grove, MO; two granddaughters, Heather and David Vestal, and Katie and Matthew Fletchall, both of Nevada; one great-grandson, Kaleb Vestal; four great-granddaughters, Kylee and Kourtnee Vestal, and Hadley and Haizleigh Fletchall, all of Nevada; one sister, Darlene Hiebert, Sheldon and her husband, the late Raymond Hiebert, and their children, Mary Ann, Steven, and David; two nephews, Larry Potter, Nevada, and Terry Potter, St. Charles, MO. In addition to his wife Virginia, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Oden Potter and his wife Judy; two nephews, Jerry Potter, and Daniel Hiebert; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Bill Platt officiating. Interment will follow in Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon, MO. Visitation with Masonic Rites will be held from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
