COVID-19 Update..
There has been much discussion around the KC metro area today regarding the extension of the Stay-at-Home order. It becomes difficult to balance protecting health with restoring the economy and getting people back to work. Rural areas such as ours are different than the urban areas of Kansas City and St. Louis where the number of COVID-19 cases is higher. Kansas City extended their order to May 15th today. Missouri Governor Parson announced today that Missouri’s Stay-at-Home order will be extended to May 3rd.
The Cass County Health Department, Cass County Commission and local mayors are reviewing the Cass County order. The encouraging news is that the precautions we have been taking are working, especially the social (physical) distancing. You have done a great job and I encourage you to continue the recommendations you now know so well. I expect that social distancing will become part of our new normal even after the Stay-at-Home order is lifted. There is still much to be learned about the coronavirus, its antibodies, and the future of a vaccine.
Cass County has had three new cases today (none from Harrisonville) for a total of 51 cases and 5 deaths.
I am saddened to report another death at Meadow View of Harrisonville, and I offer my condolences to the family and friends of the gentleman who passed.
Thank you, Harrisonville for allowing me the distinct privilege of being your mayor. I am confident we will make it through this together as we look toward getting our community back to work.
Stay safe. Stay strong. Stay home.
