Lane reductions, Possible traffic delays on I-49 at the Marmaton River in Vernon County

During Bridge Rehabilitation Starting Week of June 1

Vernon County-- Drivers can expect lane closings and possible traffic delays on I-49 north of Nevada when a project to rehabilitate the southbound bridge over the Marmaton River (Mile Marker 108) begins the week of June 1, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Contractor crews will replace the bridge deck or driving surface and install new guardrail at the north end of the bridge.

Traffic impacts:

• Week of June 1, southbound I-49 will be reduced to one lane for shoulder reinforcement

• Beginning week of June 29, southbound right lane closed and traffic shifted to the left lane allowing crews to replace the bridge deck or driving surface

• Beginning week of Aug. 17, southbound left lane closed and traffic shifted to right lane allowing crews to replace bridge deck or driving surface

• I-49 speed limit reduced to 60 mph in the work zone

Weather and/or unforeseen delays will alter the work schedule.
This bridge was built in 1969 and carries approximately 5,700 vehicles per day. The driving surface is deteriorating and in need of rehabilitation.
