In the near future something will be missing on the horizon- the familiar stacks of the Montrose power plant

Roughly 60 years of history is slowly being dismantled and hauled away as the Montrose Power Plant, along with five other regional coal fired plants are being decommissioned.

Kansas City Power & Light says the decision is part of “the company’s commitment to a sustainable energy future and balanced generation portfolio,” according to an announcement released earlier this month.

The Montrose plant provided employment for many local folks over the years- and while rubble is hauled away, many memories will remain.
