One dead, one injured following Butler kidnapping

Last night around 9:30 pm, the Bates County Sheriff's Office received a call in reference to a kidnapping that had just occurred in Butler.  The female was forced into her car at gunpoint from her place of employment.  Information received indicated that the vehicle would have possibly been returning to the Kansas City area.   Deputies and a municipal police officer observed the vehicle northbound on I49 and attempted to stop the vehicle.

The vehicle pulled over to the side of the road and a female exited the vehicle, then walked toward the officers when a male subject exited the back seat and shot the female in the face.  The officers returned fire striking the male subject preventing any additional shots at the female.  Deputies, Fire Personnel and Paramedics gave first aid to the female and the male.  The female was transported to a trauma center in the Kansas City area where she was being treated with serious injuries.  The male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The female had recently filed an exparte order preventing the male from being around her.

As per policy, the Deputies have been placed on an administrative leave and the Cass County Sheriff's Office is conducting the Shooting investigation.
