UPDATE: (June 8, 2020 @ 4:00 pm) The Cass County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of an abduction in Bates County last night as Bridgett L. Burriss, 40, of Warsaw, Missouri.
It was reported that Burriss was abducted from her job in Butler and when stopped by law enforcement near AA Highway in Bates County she was shot by Donald L. Hunter, 39, Warsaw. Hunter was pronounced dead at the scene and Burriss was transported to an area hospital.
Burriss is no longer hospitalized. Two Bates County Deputies and one Adrian Police Officer are currently on routine administrative leave while the incident is being investigated.
More information will be made available as the investigation continues.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation as part of the Western Missouri Sheriff’s Critical Incident Investigation Team.
