Rescue was a team effort in Henry County

On Tuesday, June 9th, 2020 Henry County 911 received a call from a female subject stating that she and her husband had been stranded in the woods on their property all night. She was able find her way back to their house and called for help, but her husband remained in the woods.

The caller advised dispatch that Sheriff Oberkrom would be familiar with the area she was talking about and she was returning to that area where they became lost. Clinton Fire was requested to respond to the scene to assist as well as the Highway Patrol.

Sheriff Oberkrom and Deputy Scott Brandt responded to the scene where they met up with Golden Valley Ambulance personnel. Sheriff Oberkrom and medical personnel were able to find the female caller and she gave them directions to the approximate area where her husband was located.

After several minutes, Sheriff Oberkrom and medical personnel could hear the voice of the husband and he was located near a creek bank. Although the victim was standing, he was having great difficulty walking. With the help of several local citizens, a side-by-side was able to get to the area where the victim was located and extricated him out of the woods. The victim was transported back to his residence, where medical personnel checked him over.

“This was truly a team effort by several agencies and local citizens to make this a successful outcome”, Sheriff Oberkrom said.
