Obituary - Douglas “Doug” Earl Johnson

Douglas “Doug” Earl Johnson, 57, of Nevada, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2020 at Nevada Regional Medical Center. Doug was born on August 12, 1963 to Billy Joe and Donna Kay (Beisly) Johnson in Fort Scott.

Doug was raised in Deerfield and graduated from Nevada High School Class of 1981. He then attended Fort Scott Community College for 2 years majoring in Ag Mechanics. He worked at various tractor and implement stores over the years but was best known as a self-employed diesel mechanic. Doug was actively involved with 4-H, Vernon County Fair Board, and a proud supporter of the FFA. Doug was a wonderful father, papa, son, brother, friend, and diesel mechanic to all who knew and loved him. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and with horses, working on pulling mowers and tractors, spending time with his kids and grandkids. Doug was known for his contagious smile, laughter, never meeting a stranger and his willingness to help anyone in need.

Survivors include his five children, Stephanie Lilley (Bradley) of Columbia, Dr. Chad Johnson (Becka) of Cassville, Trenton Johnson of Deerfield, Catherine Johnson, and Landon Johnson, of Milo. Five grandchildren, Henry, Georgia, and Benji Lilley of Columbia, and Blakely and Drew Johnson of Cassville. Father and Stepmother, Billy Joe and Kathy Johnson of Devon, Mother and Stepfather, Donna and Delbert Wheeler of Deerfield. Sister, Tabitha Hamersley (David) of Nevada. Preceding him in death was infant sister, Regina Kay.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2020. at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Roger Beach officiating. Committal will follow in Deerfield Cemetery, Deerfield, MO. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday October 21, 2020 at Ferry Funeral Home.
