Obituary - John P. Hilte

With the upsurge of COVID-19 we request all who attend the Visitation and/or Funeral for John P. wear a mask to the funeral home. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at 1:00 p.m.

The MINISTER will be Pastor Tony Reynolds.

VISITATION will also be held at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

INTERMENT will occur at St. Ludger’s Cemetery in Germantown, Missouri at a later date.

A MILITARY GRAVESIDE SERVICE will be presented by the Montrose VFW Post #8820 and the Missouri Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests MEMORIAL donations can be made to the Montrose VFW Post #8820

John P. Hilte passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 22, 2020, age 77. He was born June 20, 1943, near Montrose, Missouri the son of James Marlin and Alice Mildred (Carter) Hilte. He graduated from Montrose High School in 1961. After the completion of his education, John enlisted in the US Navy, serving his country proudly in the Vietnam War. During this time, he met and married Linda Kalwei on September 3, 1970, his wife of 50 years. They had five children: Phillip, Monty, Lonnie, Johnnie, and Connie.

John worked as a welder for Peabody Coal Company for 19 years. He also owned and operated AC Welding muffler shop in Appleton City for 22 years. John was an active member of the Montrose VFW, serving as the unit commander. Short Street Tavern was rarely without his presence in the evenings, where he happily greeted everyone that came through the doors, as he never met a stranger. John further spent many happy hours watching television and feeding his grandchildren loads of candy. His family and especially his grandchildren were the thing he cherished most in life. John was a member of the Montrose Methodist/Presbyterian Church in Montrose until it was closed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Marlin and Alice Mildred (Carter) Hilte.

John is survived by his wife, Linda; five children: Phillip (Tracy) Bergschneider, Monty (Mylissa) Hilte, Lonnie (Paula) Hilte, Johnnie, and Connie (Aaron) Cook; 17 grandchildren; one brother, Jim (Tammy) Hilte, 7 great-grandchildren; along with many extended family and dear friends, and JASON.
