Gloria “Joyce” Thompson was born November 10, 1934, in Rusk County, Texas, the daughter of Violet Ella (Allen) Murphy and Elmer Leo Murphy. Joyce married Curtis Thompson on December 22, 1950, in Weatherford, Tx. They were married 68 years at the time of his passing in 2019.
She retired in 2001 as Postmaster for the Edwards, Mo., post office. After retirement, Joyce and Curtis enjoyed traveling all over the United States in the RV. They would often join their best friends, Colleen and Allen Pankratz, traveling the southern states together, enjoying beaches, collecting shells and playing games. After several years, Joyce and Curtis settled in Clinton, Missouri to be close to their children. Joyce took up jewelry making and loved shopping for beads and making beautiful pieces to sell. Her favorite color was sparkle and she loved all things sparkly.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Curtis Thompson; one daughter, Marcella Anne Thompson; parents, Elmer and Violet Murphy; 3 brothers, Maurice Murphy, Norman Murphy and Jack Murphy.
Surviving Joyce are her children, Cindy Mills (Jon), Jennifer Brown, Claude Thompson (Lisa), and Anne Thompson (Jeffrey); eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren.
On Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at the age of 86, Joyce entered into the arms of Jesus with her daughters Annie and Jenny by her side.
Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2021 at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. Interment will be in the Englewood Cemetery. Condolences may be left online at www.bradleyhadley.com.
