David S. Huenefeldt was born on July 2, 1944. He was a 1962 graduate of Clinton Senior High School and went on to serve in the Missouri National Guard. He was a farmer for many years, running everything from a hog operation to cattle and crops. For almost 19 years, he owned a Kansas City Star delivery route where he faithfully delivered newspapers in every weather and road condition.
David was a leader in his quiet and unassuming way. He was founding president of the Golden Valley Farmer's Market in the early 1990s and founded the Golden Valley Beekeeper's Club as well. He was known in the community for being the person to call to capture bee swarms and enjoyed tending his beehives.
David served his community in many capacities but his passion was serving youth as a 4-H Leader for 45 years and he was inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame in 2008. He was a member of the Fields Creek Township road board for decades and involved in the leadership of the Henry County rural fire department. As a hog farmer, he was a member of the Henry County and Missouri State Pork Producers and was named Henry County Agribusinessman of the Year in 1987. David was also well-known to the American Red Cross as a consistent blood donor over the years having donated >18 gallons of blood in total. David was a Jubilee Member of the Clinton United Methodist Church.
Most who knew David knew he had a lifelong love of trains. From running away from home at the age of 4 just to see a train go by to model railroading and being a volunteer at the Belton, Grandview, and Kansas City Railroad, he never missed a chance to experience everything railroads had to offer. His other hobbies included watersports, especially water skiing and boating, gardening and teaching gardening to his 4 grandchildren, and enjoying the various pets around the Huenefeldt farm.
He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Ruth (nee Seaton) Huenefeldt, brothers Bill and Paul Huenefeldt, and sister Faye Huenefeldt. He is survived by his wife Alice (nee Jeffery) Huenefeldt, sons Jim (Amanda) Huenefeldt and their children Greta and Grady, Sam (Elizabeth) Huenefeldt and their children Miles and Brice, his nephews Paul (Ana) Huenefeldt, and Tom (Trish) Huenefeldt. Visitation will be Friday, August 27th, 2021 from 6pm-8pm at the Clinton United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at the Clinton United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 28th at 10am with a short graveside service at Englewood Cemetary immediately following.
