Obituary - Rebecca Hoffman

Rebecca Hoffman February 4, 1944 - September 7, 2021:

Butler, Missouri - Rebecca Ann Hoffman (Shafer), 77, or known by those who loved her as "Becky" passed from this earth on Tuesday September 7, 2021. She was marked by love – a love of God, her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends. She has forever left a handprint on our hearts.

Becky was born in Nevada, MO on February 4, 1944, to Roy and Anne Shafer. She grew up with siblings, Dickie Bob, Cissy, Lee, Bill and Judy; and a lot of extended family. During her childhood, she loved to swim and be outdoors in the sun. Becky excelled at academics and played the clarinet. At an after-school program, she met her childhood sweetheart, Jerry Hoffman. They were married on January 21, 1961, and remained in Nevada MO. On August 26 of that same year, their first-born son, James Edward Hoffman was born. In 1962, their second son Jerry Dean Hoffman, Jr. was born. Over the next few years, they lived in Butler MO and northern Oklahoma. In 1965, their daughter, Sheila LeeAnn (Hoffman) Schroyer was born. In 1967, their third son, Christopher "Shawn" Hoffman was born; and in the winter of 1970 their fourth son, Mark Linn Hoffman was born.

In 1971, they settled in Grandview, Missouri where they made a life for themselves and their five children. Over the years, Jerry and Becky worked hard for their family and sacrificed much out of love for their children.

In the early 70's, Becky began her career in commercial insurance and eventually earned her commercial broker's license. Her independence and strong work ethic reinforced her loyalty and faithfulness as an employee. During her free time, she loved to bowl with her girlfriends, crochet afghans for new babies, bake Christmas candy, garden and watch sports on TV. She was an avid attender of all her kids' and grandkids' athletic events. She yelled and cheered for them all.

Becky was a member of Manna Fellowship in Pleasant Hill, MO. She loved serving at the church, holding the babies and praying for others. Her later years were marked by physical disabilities, but she persevered. While she suffered much on this earth, she is now with her Heavenly Father free of all pain. She was a woman of faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Anne Shafer, and her siblings Dickie Bob Shafer, Lee Shafer, Bonnie Sue Shafer and her niece Kimberly Shafer. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jerry; five children and spouses, Jim and Margaret Hoffman, Jerry and Janet Hoffman, Jr., Jack and Sheila ("Hoffman") Schroyer, Shawn Hoffman and Mark and Alberta Hoffman; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; her siblings, Cissy Claypool, Bill Shafer and Judy Frame as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to express our thanks to the medical staff at Menorah Hospital, Leawood KS for their compassionate care during her final days.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday September 18, 2021, at Manna Fellowship, 17617 S Route 291, Pleasant Hill MO 64080. Visitors are welcome as early as 10:00 a.m. to view memorial video, visit, etc.
