For the third year now, the Amsterdam Community Building has served as headquarters for a project first initiated by Amsterdam resident Wes Hubbard to give a 'helping hand' to those in need for the holidays which includes food, Christmas gifts, personal hygiene products and more- all by personal and local business donations. Hubbard says while the first year about 30 local folks received the special gifts, this year it has grown to about 112 and Santa's Helpers are out today delivering in an effort to make Christmas a bit better for local folks in Merwin, Amsterdam, Amoret and areas in between.
Also this morning, Mr. Hubbard presented Amsterdam resident Rosie Cutshaw the honors of 'Citizen of the Year' for her ongoing dedication to the community. Rosie received a $25 gift certificate to McBee's, a t-shirt and certificate as seen here.
