Drive to Help Community Grows Year After Year

A ROOM FULL OF GIVING shown with bags of donations and Christmas gifts are (left to right) Laurie Lacy, Lynn Bagby, Rosie Cutshaw, Wes Hubbard and Judy Johnston (absent for photo were Lori King and Dea Erickson).

For the third year now, the Amsterdam Community Building has served as headquarters for a project first initiated by Amsterdam resident Wes Hubbard to give a 'helping hand' to those in need for the holidays which includes food, Christmas gifts, personal hygiene products and more- all by personal and local business donations. Hubbard says while the first year about 30 local folks received the special gifts, this year it has grown to about 112 and Santa's Helpers are out today delivering in an effort to make Christmas a bit better for local folks in Merwin, Amsterdam, Amoret and areas in between.

Also this morning, Mr. Hubbard presented Amsterdam resident Rosie Cutshaw the honors of 'Citizen of the Year' for her ongoing dedication to the community. Rosie received a $25 gift certificate to McBee's, a t-shirt and certificate as seen here. Hubbard and his helpers would like to extend a hearty thank you to all who donated and made this year's drive the biggest yet; and if anyone would like to participate next year, please contact him via Facebook.
