Jimmie “Short” Showalter was born April 14, 1938 in Harrisonville, Missouri to Ivan Sr. and Edith Arlene Maupin Showalter. He grew up the area attending school in Main City, Missouri, LaCygne, Kansas, and Drexel, Missouri. After school, he went right to work doing many different jobs, but before retirement he worked as a carpenter for Don King and Rau Construction Company. Short married Caroline Pelton in Kansas City, Missouri on July 24, 1965. To this union three girls were born, Donita, Janice, and Brenda.
Short enjoyed his time at Chiefs and Braves games, camping trips, weekends at the lake house, and watching the neighborhood from his special spot in the garage, but his greatest joy came from spending time with family. He was proud of his daughters and the families they raised and loved when the grandchildren and great-grandchildren were around. Short could often be found taking his daily drives around Drexel showing off his new pick-up. He was not a man of many words or that liked large gatherings, but he was always there to lend a hand in the background. He was a member of the Drexel Baptist Church and the Carpenters Union #61.
Short was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Ronald, Dean, and Junior. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Caroline Showalter of the home in Drexel, MO., daughters, Donita Shipman (John) of Mora, MO., Janice Russell (Todd) of Drexel, MO., and Brenda Hadley (Brian Kaufman) of Drexel, MO. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Jack Shipman, Wyatt Shipman and wife Melissa, Brandon Russell and wife Ashleigh, Mallari Easterla and husband Matt, Cody Russell, Cassie Hadley, Blake Hadley, Mikaela Hadley, and Kendall Hadley. Great-grandchildren, Anthony Bradley, Tinlee Easterla, Will Shipman, Emma Shipman, Braxton Russell, Piper Russell, Rae Russell, and Chase Frazier. Nieces and nephews, Rick Showalter and wife Kelly, Cindy Jobes, Vickie Pittman, Dennis Blanton and wife Linda, Steve Blanton and wife Lisa, Jason Showalter, and sister-in-law Peggy Moles, along with many extended family members and good friends Mary and Bill Jones.
