Nora Marie (Cowan) Green was born August 8, 1927 in Greenfield, Missouri to John Harris and Susan (Garver) Cowan. She passed away January 15, 2022 surrounded by loved ones in her daughter’s home. Nora was the middle child of seven, four sisters and two brothers. She held fond memories of growing up on a farm, milking cows, caring for livestock and helping her mother in the garden.

Graduating from Lowry City High School in 1945 she started life as a secretary at Stoneman Brothers Coal Company. Ten years later, upon closure of the company she moved to Clinton, Missouri and was employed at Clinton Skate Company and Mills Brothers Insurance. For a brief period, she worked at Wilcox Electric Company in Kansas City and then returned to Clinton to work for Unitog Manufacturing Company as an inspector for the pant department. On January 18, 1965, she married Joseph Green and they began their lives in Independence, Missouri where Joe was employed at Jenkins Music Company. An employment transfer would later move the family to Tulsa, Oklahoma and another would bring them back to Clinton, Missouri. To this marriage, there were two daughters, Cheryl and Bobbi. In 1978, she and daughters moved to Appleton City, Missouri, where she lived the duration of her life. She was employed by Kelly-Walker Furniture Store for the next 18 years. Upon the store closing she began caring for children in her home and did so well into her 70’s. Each called her Grandma and held a special place in her heart.

Nora loved caring for her family, working in the yard and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and always looked forward to hosting the annual family reunion every December when her home was full with family, card games, laughter and cheer. She loved telling stories of fun times growing up on the farm. She also had a bit of sass and mischief encouraging all to keep life fun, no matter what you were dealt. Nora would give all she had to help family and friends, even if it meant doing without for herself. He children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very dear to her heart. Her sense of humor, loving and giving nature will be remembered by all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.
