Marilyn was born to Homer R. and Marguerite Mallory Lathrop on a sweltering hot day – July 16, 1940, in Sheldon.
She was the youngest of ten children and arrived around 9:00 p.m. after her mother had prepared a meal on a wood cook stove for the harvest hands. The doctor arrived later.
Marilyn graduated from Rockdale Grade School as her father and siblings had before her. She then attended and graduated from Sheldon High School, Ft. Scott Cosmetology College, and Joplin Vatterott College. Marilyn worked at Nelly Don/Junior House, operated a beauty shop in her home, Sheldon Medical Clinic, and managed the Sheldon Senior Housing.
Marilyn married Lucian Dale Bond, Jr. on July 16, 1960, the marriage ending in 1970. She enjoyed many varied interests and experiences with a lifetime of reading, music, and family gatherings most pleasurable.
Survivors include one son, Bradley Bond of Pleasant Hill, MO; her grandsons, Blake Bond of Austin, TX and Brady Bond of Independence, MO; and four generations of nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, four sisters, five nephews, three great nephews, one niece, and one great niece.
At her request there will be no visitation, viewing, services or flowers. She will have a private burial in her space at the Sheldon Cemetery.
