Sophomore Eli Cox drove in five on three hits to lead Butler Bears Baseball team past Sherwood 14-6 on Tuesday. Cox drove in runs on a single in the first, a single in the second, and a single in the forth. The Bears grabbed an early lead.
The Bears scored on a single by Brandon Hammett in the first inning, a single by Bryson Kash in the first inning, a single by Cox in the first inning, a single by Brock Lines in the first inning, a single by Zane Carson in the first inning, and a single by Cox in the second inning. Lines was the winning pitcher for the Bears.
The pitcher surrendered five runs on six hits over three and a third innings, striking out six. Carson and Cox entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Morgan Gage was on pitcher’s mound for Sherwood.
The pitcher lasted one-third of an inning, allowing eight hits and nine runs while walking one. Luke Swigart and Layson Wiedenmann entered the game from the bullpen, throwing three and a third innings and two and a third innings respectively.
The Bears hit one home run on the day. Freshman Jake Chandler had a long ball in the third inning. The Bears scattered 18 hits in the game.
Jackson, Chandler, Cox, Maddox Fennewald, Hammett, and Kash all collected multiple hits for the Bears. Cox and Jackson all had three hits for the Bears.
Maddox Fennewald led the Bears with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with six stolen bases. Jonah Kopriva led Sherwood with two hits in four at bats.
