Obituary - Bob Mooney

Bob Mooney, age 88, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2023. He was born on November 15, 1934 in La Cygne, Kansas to parents Clyde and Ruth McNutt Mooney. He attended school in La Cygne, going into the United States Army from 1953 to 1956. 

He was stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and then Fort Bragg in North Carolina. On November 20, 1955 he married Barbara Spendal in Kansas City, Missouri. After marrying, they lived in North Carolina until moving back to La Cygne. 

Bob and Barb had two children, Jim and Janet. In 1961 they purchased the farm at La Cygne where Bob continued to live until his death. Bob worked at various manufacturing plants including, Delco, Sheffields, R&O, and Doherty's as a welder. In 1969 Bob and Barb began the business of S&M Manufacturing.

The business made mineral feeders, stock racks and other farming equipment. They sold the business in 1979. The building they built is where Lucy' Bar and Grill is now. Bob and Barb raised Angus cattle for many years. They enjoyed walking in the herd and watching the cows.

Bob enjoyed gardening and fishing when he could. Bob and Barb were married for fifty-five years before Barb's death in 2011. They met due to Bob's sister and Barb's sister being friends and introducing them. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Barb, of fifty-five years, his parents, and three brothers, Howard, Vernon and Ken Mooney.

Bob is survived by a son, Jim, a daughter, Janet Reese and husband Randy, five grandchildren, Eric Reese, Joey Reese and wife Ashley, Bri Sweat and husband Jack, Brandon Reese and Crissy Reese, seven great grandchildren, Colton and Mackenzie Dilley, Jacy and Cooper Sweat, Leo and Bobby Reese, and Luna Reese , and three sisters, Waneta Stobaugh, Alladene Johnston, and Louise Miller.

Graveside funeral service will be 2 pm Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at the Oak Lawn Cemetery, La Cygne Kansas. Visitation will be form 12:30 pm until departure for the cemetery at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel.
