Hugh was born August 18, 1934, to Luther David and Frances Logan in Fort Scott, Kansas.
Due to his father’s career with the Texaco Pipeline, Hugh lived in a variety of small communities as a child, then they moved to Sheldon where he graduated from Sheldon High School in 1952. He had a lengthy career as a brakeman for the Missouri Pacific and later Union Pacific Railroads, and was also a farmer in the Sheldon area. He was a longtime chair of the Vernon County Youth Fair Beef Committee, and a member of the Drywood Township Board. He was also a member of the Vernon County Farm Bureau Board. His wife Marilyn Jackson Logan preceded him in death in August 2009 after 52 years of marriage.
He is survived by their three children, H.M. Logan and his wife Terry of Sheldon, Dana Sheat and her husband Chris of Lamar, and Kim Greer and her husband Terry of Nevada. Grandchildren include Katlyn Logan, Whitney Forst, Jordan Sheat, Teryn Greer, Logan Sheat, Paige Greer, Carly Mitchell, Kelli Sheat, and Bryce Greer. Great grandchildren include Bronson Daulton, Kaidence Wise, Jace Duncan, Bentley Wise, Rylee Forst, Michael Bush, Nicholas Bush, Charlotte Mitchell, and Ryder Forst. Other survivors include a brother, David Logan and his wife Lee of Jefferson City. Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, and a granddaughter, Kerry Duncan.
Visitation will be held at the Ferry Funeral Home on Sunday, October 15th from 3-5:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 16th at the Sheldon Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in his name to the Vernon County Youth Fair c/o Ferry Funeral Home.
