James A. Kaufman Jr. was born on December 9, 1952 in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of James A. Kaufman Sr. and Gloria Jewell Williams Kaufman. He attended Louisburg High School where he graduated in 1970. From there he joined the United States Navy, and was enlisted from 1970 to 1974. During his deployment he served as a firefighter aboard the USS Iwo Jima, and helped to recover the Apollo 13 capsule. After being honorably discharged in 1974, James went to work in construction then later for Dover Sod Farm where he worked for nearly 27 years. When James wasn’t hard at work, he enjoyed some time spent traveling. However, anyone who knew him well, knew his true passion was coon hunting, and raising coon hounds. Often making trips a great distance to purchase the perfect dog.
James was preceded in death by his parents Gloria and James Kaufman Sr., brother Roger Kaufman, sister Sherry Kaufman, sister Denise Kaufman, brother Jerry Kaufman, and infant brother Wayne James Kaufman.
He is survived by his brother Brian Kaufman and fiancé Brenda of Drexel, MO, brother Ricky Kaufman of La Cygne, KS, sister Kamara Kaufman of Iowa Park, TX, and countless nieces and nephews.
He will be deeply missed, and he will forever be remembered as a grouchy guy with a big heart, and a collector of many things.
