Update: Assault at Lamar football game

The investigation into the assault after the football game is still ongoing. The assault occurred directly south of the stadium near the intersection of 6th and Maple. At this time we can say that, as a result of the investigation, this assault was not related to the football game.

The juvenile suspects have been identified and are not students of either school involved in the game. There were no current football players involved in the assault.

One Lamar High School Student who was injured and transported to a regional hospital. Thankfully, he is reported to be in stable condition currently.

At this time, there is one juvenile in custody being held at the Jasper County Juvenile Detention Center for 1rst Degree Assault. We are currently seeking others involved in this incident for questioning.

We are aware of a lot of information about this incident on social media, unfortunately, much of what we have seen is not accurate.
