Adrian moves on to District Championship Game

To begin the semi-final round of the district tournament, the Adrian Blackhawks were set to take on the Stockton Tigers. The Blackhawks had a first round bye as they are the 1 seed in the the district, while Stockton, the 4 seed, defeated the Sherwood Marksmen to make it to the semi-finals.

Neither teams wanting their seasons to come to an end, both teams came out aggressive, trading scores. Midway through the quarter Baxter drove baseline and slammed the basketball to take a 7-6 Tigers lead. Adrian answers with an and-one basket by Kramer, reclaiming a 9-7 Adrian lead. Baxter would tie the game back up with a jumper before Hamilton would hit a deep ball to put the Blackhawks back up. The Tigers closed out the quarter on a 5-2 run in the last 2 minutes to knot the game up at 14 a piece after 8.

Kramer came out of the quarter break and drilled a shot from distance, to put the Blackhawks back out front. After a bucket from Ford, Kramer buried yet another triple, to carry on a very quick 10-0 Adrian run in the first minute and change of the 2nd. The run would force a time-out by the Tigers. After the time-out, the Blackhawks accuracy from distance would continue as Hamilton would knock down a three ball, forcing yet another Tiger’s time-out stretching the Adrian lead to 27-14.

Baxter would finally stop the bleeding and record the Tiger’s first basket of the quarter with just above 5 minutes until the half. A pair of free throws by Woods would bring the gap back within single digits, as the Blackhawks led 27-18. After an 11-0 Blackhawks run, Woods would go go the stipe to sink a pair. After a 27 point 2nd quarter, Adrian took a 41-22 lead into the locker room.

At the half, the Blackhawks were deadly from behind the arch, going 6 of 10.

Out of the intermission, Baxter would begin the scoring, and spark a 7-0 Tigers run to open the half. Rusow would go to the line to give Adrian their first points of the half. Ford would hit 1 of 2 from the line to end a 6-0 Tigers run. Stockton would outscore the Blackhawks 21-13 in the quarter, but still found themselves trailing 56-43 going into the final 8 minutes.

Kramer began the final period with a dunk for the Blackhawks, but the Tigers immediately answer with a trifecta by Sexton. Adrain would look to slow the game down in the final 5 minutes as they held a decent lead. Baxter slammed down the alley-oop basket, but Kramer would fire back with a 3 ball. The Tigers would grab a steal and a bucket, pulling back within 12 with just over 2 minutes left in regulation. Adrian would close out the game on a 10-5 run on their way to 77-60 victory.

With the win, Adrian punched their ticket to the championship game. They were led by Colin Kramer with 30 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Cole Hamilton pitched in 19 points with 5 threes for the Blackhawks.

Stockton was led by Baxter with 18, followed by Raines with 16 and Woods with 15.
